Sou Pui Kun
Born in 1959 in Macau, he graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, and later obtained a Master's degree in ceramics from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, followed by a Ph.D. in history from Jinan University. Before retiring, he served as an associate professor at the School of Arts and Design at the Macau University of Science and Technology.
He specializes in intaglio, relief, hole, and lithographic printmaking, with a particular love for intaglio and copperplate etching. Since 1997, he has been exploring the application of UV-curable inks in intaglio printing, and in 2011, he successfully used UV-curable adhesives to create stable intaglio prints, effectively utilizing images printed on slides and curing them with UV light, which has revolutionized traditional creative processes.
He has held solo exhibitions at Zhengzhi University in Kaohsiung, Beijing University of Media and Communications, and the Macau Museum of Art, and is currently exhibiting “From Embers to Blossoms: Sou Pui Kun Printmaking Exhibition Cloud Gallery.
He has received several international printmaking awards, including the Collection Award at the China Guanlan International Print Biennale, the Selected Award at the 12th International Print and Drawing Biennale, and the Collection Award at the 13th Space International Print Biennale in Seoul, Korea. He has also been awarded in India, Beijing, Thailand, and other locations.
Three of his works have been collected at the Guanlan International Print Biennale, and he has had pieces selected for the “National Print Exhibition,” with selections collected by the Guangdong Provincial Museum of Art in Guangzhou and the Guizhou Museum of Fine Arts. Additionally, other works are held in the collections of the Chinese Historical Museum in Beijing, Sichuan Chongqing Art Museum, National Taiwan Normal University’s Shida Art Museum, Taipei National University of the Arts’ Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, and the Macau Museum of Art.
